Remembering Juanita

We are heartbroken to inform the many friends who experienced Juanita Hernandez's love and caring nature that she passed this on Saturday, October 31, 2020.

Juanita always went the extra mile to ensure those around her were comfortable. She overcame many challenges and learned skills that enabled her to assist numerous organizations in Central America with administration.

Many long term volunteers and staff knew Juanita as their mother away from home. Always attentive to the wellbeing. The first to order a birthday cake or go to the pharmacy late at night for just the right medication.

We are saddened that such a great, humble, and noble person has left us this year. Below are some photos of Juanita during her time with us, along with captions featuring some fond memories from previous volunteers.

“Juanita was such a wonderful person and I loved working with her. She always made work fun and always had a hug when you were down or an explanation of a new Spanish word when you were struggling translating.”

“Juanita was always so warm, friendly and welcoming. I’ll never forget when she boldly led our group through a throng of protesters to meet our bus. We were so comforted by her confidence and leadership that day. This is a devastating loss.”

“So sad to hear of her passing. She took great care of me when I traveled to Guatemala and stayed at AMA. She insisted on sleeping there also so I would be safe! So full of life, love and fun with a bit of mischief mixed in also. Prayers that she is dancing with her Mom in heaven and for her family would will miss her dearly.”
