Innovative Artisan Workshops for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
For two months, AMA is facilitating a course in bag making at a training center in Quetzaltenango. They have coordinated for twenty participants of their Women's Circles to attend the innovative, weekly artisan workshops. The aim of the course is to improve their sewing skills and learn how to produce a variety of high quality bags. In today’s class, the women are learning to make bags out of a pair of used jeans, incorporating new sewing techniques with recycling. One of the women said, “I usually burn my children’s old clothes when they don’t fit anymore but now I know that I can make something new out of them.” We hope that through the course the women will be able to produce fashionable bags ad purses to sell in the Alternatives store, a loyal partner to AMA located in Richmond, VA.
